Dr. Shirish V. Prayag is a pioneer in Indian and Asian critical care medicine, notable for founding the first Critical Care Unit in Pune and being the first Indian consultant to receive the Fellowship of the American College of Critical Care Medicine.

- Post-graduation in Internal Medicine in Pune, India, in 1978.
Current Role:
- Chairman of the organizing committee for the "BEST OF BRUSSELS" conference since 2013.
- On the editorial board for the International Journals of ICU MANAGEMENT and CRITICAL CARE since 2014.
Experience:
- Trained in Intensive Care at Charing Cross Hospital, London, under Prof. Ken Hillman, from 1981-2.
- Practiced as a consultant in critical care in Pune, India, since 1983.
- Established the first Critical Care Unit in Pune in 1985-6.
- Pioneered critical care in India and Asia.
- Founder and Executive Committee member of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine since its inception in 1993.
- Past President of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine from 2000-2002.
- First consultant from India to be awarded the Fellowship of American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM).
- First consultant from India to be elected to the Executive Council of the World Federation of Societies for Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM) from 2001-2009.
- Invited as faculty at 31 Indian National congresses on Critical Care. He is the only person to have done so.
- Invited as faculty to various international congresses on critical care, including the World Congress, APICS, Asia Pacific Congress, Pan Iberian South, American European Society, and Pan Arab.
- Referee for Prestigous International Journal and Intensive Care Medicine.
- Ex-Vice President of the Deccan Education Society.
