Session Overview: Dr. Sunny from Viatris welcomed speakers Prof. George Richard Thompson III and Dr. P. Vishnu Rao, along with panelists Dr. Arpan Chakraborty, Dr. Aditya Jandial, and Dr. Harjit Dumra.
Module 1 – Rare Aspergillosis Cases
Prof. George Richard Thompson III presented 5 rare cases, including CNS, GI, cardiac, and trauma-related Aspergillus infections, with focus on site-specific diagnosis and antifungal strategies. Opinions from other faculty like Dr Vishu, Dr Harjit, Dr Aditya and Dr Arpan were taken on each of the cases.
Module 2 – Panel Discussion and Polling
Followed by audience polls, Dr. P. Vishnu Rao moderated a discussion with Dr. Thompson, Dr.Chakraborty, Dr.Jandial, and Dr.Dumra on:
- Aspergillosis mimicking asthma, COPD, or TB
- Role of immune status and diagnostic tools (Galactomannan, BDG, PCR)
- Antifungal therapy comparisons: Isavuconazole vs. Voriconazole
- Managing cases in CAPA and transplant patients
Module 3 – Q&A Session
Participants interacted with the faculty to address real-world diagnostic and treatment challenges in rare Aspergillosis.
